Learning to code has never been this easy
Introduction
Based on the new driving force of the global economy. Codeucate is a company that has developed an online teaching and learning platform to make the teaching and learning of computer programming (coding) available in a teacher-friendly and pupil-friendly way to children in Irish schools, the United Kingdom and beyond. Coupled with the teaching and learning aspect is a unique pupil-progress tracker that gives immediate feedback to the class teacher and other invested parties.
A Bespoke Code Editor
Codeucate features a bespoke coding editor that requires students to fill in the syntax of the concept and then run their code in order to see what result the code gives back. The simple act of coding syntax promotes deep learning for students and provides them with a small sense of achievement every time they get the intended result.
user experience
Designing a product for kids can be challenging, more so than building one for adults, to this effect, all design on the Coduecate platform is lighthearted, sympathetic and built to straight forward, clear in its information architecture and concise with adequate progressive disclosure to guide users through lessons.
One demographic we really tried to entice to be interested in the platform was girls. Traditionally; science, technology, engineering and maths have been dominated by males. We really made a point of making characters female such as Ita the main feedback character.
BUILT FOR TEACHERS
Through extensive user research, we soon came to realisation on the project that our intended users of the product were actually petrified of teaching the subject matter. Designing a platform that turned teacher into facilitator was paramount to the platforms chance for success.
Codeucate offers a class management system to track and edit students progress and details. A bespoke class here function that allows the teacher to bring all students onto the same screen they’re on and most importantly, self explanatory lesson content.
